Sleeping with Merrin's missus (allegedly) was indirectly the best career decision Te-Maire Martin made Haha so is that's what that was? Always thought Moylen was involved, did hear Martin's name pop up but just thought that would be too bizarre. And yah that flat ball for Linnet was perfect.

Always thought Moylen was involved, did hear Martin's name pop up but just thought that would be too bizarre. Yea the story going around was that a high profile player at Penrith went to club management and said he wanted Martin removed from the squad for having an affair with his missus. No one would confirm who the player was, but it was also around the time that Merrin and Sal Fitzgibbon split so that only added smoke to the fire. Explained why Martin was then desperate to leave Penrith and they were keen to get rid of him, although obv both claimed it was due to wanting more opportunities in first grade.

Woods, Prop of the year Gallen, Lock of the year Hard to fault Morgan's run since JT went down, but I thought Cleary was hard done by not to get Halfback of the year. Glad they invoked the mercy rule and just announced Cam Smith the winner when it got obvious no one was catching him. Dat tribute to the Kimmorley's

Slater fullback? Gee that's a pretty rough year for fullbacks.
To win the award so convincingly at 34, Smith is deadset unbelievable.

Happy Grand Final day!
Feels like the less overall excitement for a GF game in a long long time. Probably 'cos everyone knows the Storm have been far and away the best team all season.
I don't buy that it's because there's no Sydney team around because we've had Storm v Broncos and Cowboys v Broncos GF's before and there was still a lot more buzz than there is for this.
Anywho, tips?

Either way I'm going to be happy with the result. Happy for Cronk to go out with a premiership, or happy for the Cowboys fairy tale story.
Can't see the Cowboys coming close to the Storm tonight, but I gave them no chance against the Roosters too.
Storm 13+... lets say 26-8.

Valiant effort from the Cowboys. Melbourne are really, really good at Rugby League huh.
Also, every Storm try has been scored exactly where Te Maire Martin defends. Done their homework.

I guess they'll probably give it to Smith, but Tohu Harris would be Churchill Medalist for mine. He's been outstaaaaaanding. ... all downhill in his career from now

Have to say I was totally wrong in my start of the season prediction thinking Slater's shoulder wouldn't last and he'd be forced into early retirement. Fullback of the year, Premiership and Churchill Medalist - unbelievable comeback. Far out, Curtis Scott is only 19 and he's out there winning a Premiership?! I can't even remember what I was doing at 19. It's probably just going to mess him up later on in life anyway. Bring on the World Cup.

Storm obviously clearly deserved it, incredible year. Fun freeroll for Cowboys fans given they lost JT and probably shouldn't have even made the 8 etc.
Might just be a symptom of my team being completely awful again but apart from a couple of moments (e.g. Finals Week 1) I found the NRL reasonably uninspiring this year. Not sure what the answer is but the game needs a shot of life from somewhere.

Easily the least amount of NRL I have watched since I can remember, I just didn't give much of a fuck. A lot of it was the Warriors continuing to be a mess, but it seemed almost every team outside of the top couple had an issue of some kind (like injuries) that took away from the games a bit.
I'm hopeful for next season but I lost a heap of interest this season very early.
Hopefully the World Cup isn't a shitshow from the Kiwis.

I think there's been a lot of contributing factors - injuries and lack of superstar players, the refs / bunker dramas and the coaches backlash against them turned a lot of fans off. Melbourne being head and shoulders above the rest of the pack and the Sydney teams all being so inconsistent (Roosters won like 17 games by less than 6 points so even though they were winning they weren't always playing well or looking dominant). Aussie just announced their World Cup squad. They seem beatable if we can play to our potential.

How is it even possible to be able to pick your country 3 weeks from a World Cup?

Yeah it's absolutely ridiculous. I get the whole wanting to build up other countries, but you just can't have players switching back and forth between countries on a whim. This World Cup is turning into a massive joke. League looks like a joke! Story going around is that Taumalolo was unhappy that the NZRL wouldn't budge on their decision to not play Bromwich and Proctor, and isn't impressed with Kidwell as the coach so he's leading a player revolt and the likes of Tui, Kata, Hurrell, Vatuvei, Ma'u, Taukeiaho, and Fusitua are all following him in selecting Tonga over NZ. ... and Fifita just informed Mal Meninga today - after he got selected for the Kangaroos - that he wants to go play for Tonga.

I don't want to get into a debate about the Taumalolo debate (with Shazza), but it's really sucked any interest out of the World Cup for me. Of course I'll still watch the games but the result is basically already an Australia win, right? (jinx?)
Ironically, I am most looking forward to the Pacific nations playing each other. That's normally the highlight of the league world cup.

I'm interested to see how far Tonga can go TBH (how badly they lose to Aussie) I'm expecting us to perform pretty shit, likely being tipped up by England in a shitty home performance.

Wow, Erin Molan will be the new host of the Footy Show next year.
Fatty's been given the chop after 24 years. Impressive run, but kind of a shame he couldn't get that 25 year milestone. Big Marn won't be there either. I take it they'll keep Beau around since he ticks a lot of boxes - young, good-looking, popular, does comedy, street-talk, and serious footy analyzes.
Can't say I'm too surprised though. Caught bits and pieces of Small Talk but other than that I didn't even watch one episode this season. Show jumped the shark a long time ago for mine.

Yah agreed. I haven't watched it all season and most of last season I think, but so strange to think of The Footy Show without fatty. Loved the good old days though, used to be so excited to watch it every week. Lol @ 2018 draw. Tigers play 4 top 4 teams in the first 6 weeks, Storm twice in that time Also get the Eels for the 2nd time a couple of weeks later from memory. Gotta beat the best at anytime though, but still... rough as fuck.

I see Cronk has decided to play on for another 2 years, insane IMO. Looks like he could totally do it though, just doesn't seem worth it.
And of course, it's the Roosters who are the favourites.
